TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF HEAT-TREATED ALLOY STEEL PIPES INTENDED FOR DRILLING, TUBING AND OIL EXTRACTION FROM DEEP WELLS AND MARINE PLATFORMS USING HEAT AT THE END OF ROLLING FOR THEIR HEAT TREATMENT

PROTOTYPE TEMPERING INSTALLATION WITH SLOTS FOR PERFORMING THE HEAT TREATMENT OF PIPES INTENDED FOR THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY USING, FOR TEMPERING, HEAT AT THE END OF ROLLING 
Through this research and development project, the economic agent Artrom SA Slatina made use of a new technology for the manufacture of oil pipes from alloyed and low-alloyed steels, as well as the design, execution and implementation of a new heat treatment equipment integrated in the rolling flow at hot of the pipes to use, for tempering, the temperature at the end of rolling. Three partners contributed to the realization of the project, namely Romtub SA Bucharest and the Politehnica University Bucharest as organizations with a research-development profile and Artrom SA Slatina as the beneficiary economic agent. 

The practical implementation of the project required the development of the technical documentation for the execution of the prototype tempering installation, documentation that included all the data necessary for the execution of the installation, namely: the dimensions of the heat-treated pipes, the range of diameters and wall thicknesses, the productivity of the rolling line for each size,  the  temperature  of  the pipes after rolling,    the linear  speed  of  the  pipe  through  the  installation,
The mobile chassis rises and lowers against the rollers of the roller train, which are fixed, with the help of a vertical adjustment mechanism (fig. 6). This mechanism raises and lowers the mobile chassis, compared to the fixed chassis, which is the basic part of the installation.

The slots are formed by the adjustment between two pieces, a fixed and a movable nut, made of stainless steel. The shape of these parts directs the water sheet in the direction of the pipe at an angle of 60º to its surface. By turning the adjustable nut, the width of the slot increases or decreases between zero and a maximum value, which ensures the necessary water flow of the cell. 


After hot rolling at the reducer/gauge rolling mill, the tubes are transported, one by one, on the roller train to the tempering installation located in the hot rolling flow. When the rollers of the transport train meet the prototype slotted honing installation (fig. 3), these rollers are integrated into the installation, leaving special spaces throughout this machine.

The technical solution approached is very current and presents a novelty in our country. The new equipment and the application of the new manufacturing technology of alloyed and low-alloyed pipes for the oil industry leads to the increase of economic efficiency, ensures the compliance of the products with the technical and quality norms of the
to allow the tempering of the entire range of sizes manufactured by the beneficiary partner Artrom SA Slatina.The prototype quenching installation with slots (fig. 1) contains eight quenching cells (fig. 2) supplied with industrial water under pressure (fig. 4). They are mounted in series on a mobile chassis and are coaxial. The cells are identical and are built as a whole for two dimensional groups of pipes.
American API as well as of the European Union EN and international ISO.The obtained experimental results confirm the efficiency of the new technology and the new equipment, thus offering the economic agent partner the possibility of improving the technical-economic and quality indicators in order to satisfy the demands of the market and to penetrate new market segments.

At the same time, the results of the obtained industrial research led to the development of the technological capacity of the partner economic agent, to the increase of the technical and qualitative level of the products, the assimilation of the steel brands provided in the EU, American API and international ISO standards, ensuring the competitiveness of Romanian products with those factory worldwide. The economic agents outside the partnership, owners of similar installations , will be able to equip themselves with the designed equipment through investments made in this field or under their own direction, through legal connections with the three partners of the project realization.
